Orvieto has joined the national and international network of the Società Dante Alighieri — one of Italy's most prestigious cultural institutions, founded in 1889 to promote the Italian language and culture worldwide, and present in eighty countries with over four hundred branches.
With the ratification by President Andrea Riccardi (12 December 2025), the Orvieto Committee was officially established and is already listed on the institutional website dante.global.
Internationalisation and youth engagement are the founding principles of the Orvieto Committee, which aims to contribute to the cultural renaissance of the city — with particular reference to Dante Alighieri, both through the witness of Luca Signorelli's Cappella Nuova in the Cathedral and through the design of a Dantesque itinerary through the historic centre, to be promoted to national and international branches. The goal is to place Orvieto within the broad network of relations guaranteed by the Dante, organising events, cultural exchanges and initiatives open to the entire community.
The annual events proposed by the Società Dante Alighieri and shared by the Orvieto Committee are the Dantedì on 25 March and the Settimana della Lingua Italiana. These will be complemented by events organised by the Orvieto Committee throughout the year.
“The Committee will be pleased to collaborate with all institutions, educational bodies, associations and all parties who share the common goal of fostering relations that promote the growth of the city and increase its dynamism and cultural potential.” — The Board of the Orvieto Committee
