The project, launched in 2024 on the initiative of Andrea Riccardi, President of the Dante Alighieri, provides free Italian courses to foster the proper inclusion and integration of foreign nationals who are seeking to build a positive place for themselves in society. The headquarters supplies teaching materials and tools and also covers the cost of the staff involved, in particular teachers certified in Italian as a second language (L2).
The courses will start in the autumn at the “Luigi Fumi” Library, thanks to an agreement with the Municipality set up by Carla Lodi, Head of the Promotion and Education Department, and to the valuable collaboration of Roberto Sasso, Head of the Library. Lessons will take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for a total of 40 hours of tuition, at the end of which participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
Language learning is only one aspect of the project. The lessons will be genuine spaces for dialogue, where participants will discover not only the language but also elements of civic education, the services offered by the Library, and information about the area and its history. The Orvieto Committee has embraced this initiative, already active in fifteen cities, to reaffirm its commitment to spreading the Italian language and culture, also as an essential tool for integration.
